This has been the most frustrating credit union experience I’ve ever had. My interactions with manager Kristin Finch have been extremely disappointing. I’ve encountered inconsistent information, poor communication, and what felt like dismissive behavior when addressing legitimate concerns. Policies don’t seem to be applied consistently, and the handling of loan eligibility and other decisions has raised serious questions for me. I genuinely feel that we as City of Birmingham employees who rely on this credit union deserve better service and professionalism. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend banking here.

As a city employee committed to serving the community—often on modest pay—every dollar matters. Unfortunately, this credit union has shown little regard for its members or their finances. I recently opened an account with BHAMCU and was immediately hit with an unexpected fee for a standard transaction—something I’ve never been charged for by any other bank or credit union. When I called to ask about the charge and whether it could be waived, I was shocked by the response from Carrie Player, the CEO and President. Her tone was dismissive from the start. Rather than helping resolve the issue, she blamed me for not knowing the policy—on an account I had opened less than three weeks earlier. She also claimed she lacked the authority to refund the fee. For a place that markets itself as member-focused, fees seem to be the norm: $25 here, $30 there, with restrictions that make it difficult even to close your account without incurring yet another charge. They require a six-month wait—or a $25 early closure fee—just to leave. BHAMCU lost my trust from the beginning. If you’re considering banking here, I strongly advise you to look elsewhere. Once you’re in, you’re stuck—at least for a while.

The employees try to help the members with most of there financial needs and concerns. They try to help them feel comfortable when they visit.

Very good experience. Suzy is always exceptionally nice. But I appreciate everyone there.
