Doug Killough was very prompt in handling my banking issue. Very professional and caring, the way it should be. Definitely an asset to this business.

I am deeply disappointed with my experience at Alabama One Credit Unions main Tuscaloosa branch and feel compelled to share my concerns to warn others. Several years ago, I was contacted about enrolling in their “Convenience” program, marketed as a solution for overdraft protection. The program’s terms were poorly explained, resulting in significant financial strain. After discovering that the program was draining my savings account with exorbitant overdraft fees in addition to covering overdrafts, I attempted to opt out. My first attempt was a phone call, but the bank failed to remove me from the program. I then visited Member Services at the Tuscaloosa branch, where staff apologized, refunded a portion of the “convenience” fees, and assured me I was removed from the program. To my dismay, this was not the case. Over a year later, I discovered I was still enrolled. During a third visit to the Tuscaloosa branch, I spoke with Sonya, who I later learned works at the Alberta branch. She offered a partial refund but promised to remove me from the program. Yet again, this promise was not fulfilled. Today, October 22, 2025, I made a fourth visit to the Tuscaloosa branch to address this ongoing issue. I was told—incorrectly—that I had signed to extend the program, despite my repeated visits being solely to opt out. This claim was particularly frustrating, as I had previously disputed an erroneous overdraft fee, making it clear I had no intention of continuing the program. The bank refunded only a small portion of the fees, leaving me unable to cover my bills or provide food for my daughter this month. This financial hardship could have been avoided with proper customer service and accountability. Now I can’t afford food or my bills. The staff’s handling of my concerns was inconsistent and inadequate. Employees Robyn and Lakeisha were dismissive and unprofessional, offering no meaningful assistance and very short with me and unresponsive when I gave a simple Thank You. Over a year ago, Sonya was short and unhelpful during our interaction. The only employee who treated me with respect was Clarissa, the branch manager at the Tuscaloosa branch, but even her efforts could not resolve the systemic issues I encountered. I strongly advise potential customers to avoid Alabama One Credit Union. The combination of deceptive practices, poor communication, and repeated failure to honor commitments has left me feeling scammed and neglected. I am actively seeking a new bank and plan to close my account as soon as possible. Save yourself the frustration and choose a financial institution that prioritizes transparency and customer care

Completely Incompetent – After 15+ Years, I’m Done I’ve been banking with Alabama One for over fifteen years, and I’ve never been more disappointed. They held my own money for over two weeks and still refused to release the funds — with zero valid explanation. I had to call, and practically beg just to access what was rightfully mine. This isn’t just frustrating — it’s outright incompetence. If a credit union can’t figure out how to release a routine deposit or allow the client to receive some of their funds (not caring or taking into account that ive been unemployed for 6 months), how can anyone trust them with more serious financial matters? This experience destroyed all trust I had in Alabama One. If you’re considering banking here, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere.

This used to be one of the best banks around. I've banked with this bank for about 15 years plus. Even referred my daughter to this Bank. It doesn't matter how long you have bank with them they never offer any real assistance. I went to the bank today to deposit a check from the same company I always deposit a check from. The teller told me that there will be a two-day hold on the check because I haven't deposited a check in the past month or deposited any cash since December.. They have to make sure the check "clears." Seeing that I do have a checking's and a savings and there is money in my savings. Mind you I've been cashing checks from the same company for years. So I didn't see where that should be a problem. I was personally OFFENDED because people do fall on hard times from time to time. Seeing that it has only been a month even though this is a very ACTIVE account, I use my accounts to pay bills and all. I honestly did not see where that was even necessary. I will currently be looking to bank somewhere else.
