I joined University Credit Union specifically because of their First-Time Buyer program, which is supposed to help members with little or no credit build responsibly. As an 18-year-old college student, I joined to responsibly start building my credit. I started with no credit ,and after following the program and raising my credit score to 709, I applied again. This time, I was told my second source of income had to be at least six months old — even though I have been employed full-time at the same permanent job for over three years. It’s confusing and disappointing because the program is supposed to support first-time buyers, yet my experience shows inconsistent application of the rules. I hope the credit union reviews their program policies to ensure they truly help members who are trying to responsibly build credit.

IF YOU PREFER TO BE PUNISHED FOR CHOOSING THE WRONG CREDIT UNION, YOU FOUND THE RIGHT PLACE. Read the NEGATIVE REVIEWS first! There are more negative reviews than positive reviews. In the private world, poor performance is considered cancerous and clinically eliminated before the whole organization collapses. However this credit union is operated and managed as a government bureaucrat run agency. Their deposit accounts have lover interest rates and community banks. Their car loans and credit lines have higher interest rates and are harder to get approved. They often make data entry errors which result in deposits disappearing and needing to wait many weeks for them to figure out their mistakes, which by then will have affected your credit score. Read the NEGATIVE REVIEWS first! There are more negative reviews than positive reviews. >>> Guard and grow your money at a real bank.

If you are elderly, hard of hearing, have dementia or speak another language, don’t bother signing up for this bank. After some years, my father who has declining health wanted to close his UCU. They refused to let me translate and accused me of feeding him answers. He gave the wrong address due to his dementia and they told him he needed to come in to the branch to close the account. The refused to give him another opportunity to give his address and would not let me help him. They tried to do a live verification in which they asked even more ridiculously difficult questions that I couldn’t even answer. How the hell is he supposed to close the account???? They are heartless and cruel and make closing an account extremely difficult for elderly people. Stay away!!!!!

Very disappointed with UCU. I have been a member for over 40 years. I have managed my checking and savings accounts very well. I have had several loans from UCU and have never missed a payment and they have been paid off in full.. Yet, I did a mobile check deposit on 9/22. I received an email confirmation the same day saying it was accepted. Here it is 9/29 and the money still has not been deposited into my account. I had called on 9/26 and spoke to a woman who said the money was placed on hold for 7 days, I asked if half could be released and she said she would send a request to the staff that could do that and that they would call me back . Never received a phone call from anyone. What are you doing with my money UCU? My bank debited me the same day I sent you the deposit. So I don't have access to the money for an entire week? Are you earning interest on my money somehow? I will never do a check mobile deposit again. Very disappointed in this lack of customer service. It's not as if I was depositing thousands of dollars.

Worst experience. Someone went to this branch and took money out of my account. They keep insisting that someone followed the proper protocols to make a withdrawal but I’m convinced that they let anyone take money out. they won’t even give me a call back after multiple follow ups. I can’t even get their main line. I asked them to confirm that I’ve turned everything and they won’t even respond.
