Had an account here for 7 years. Closed it when I moved away. Upon returning to Martinez I went in to open a new account and they refused to even though my account was in "good standing" according to them. I had intended to deposit a $4500 check into the account and they tried really hard to convince me to just put it in a savings account to the point of calling me on the phone a couple times after I left still trying to get that money!

Stay away from this bank. Not only have they reported me as a habitual overdraft. when I have NEVER over drafted my account and now impossible to move to a different bank I was told they can’t clear the issue I would need to by contacting some company that does except outside calls…. This has been an issue for multiple years every time I go into the branch they act surprised and confused and it’s always will get back to you once I look into this…. My updated address always disappears and important mail is always sent to the wrong address. This time it was my new debit card went into the bank was told the old card deeded to be canceled and it’s a week for a new card to come in with the holiday and purchases not yet cleared I said I would wait to cancel till I got all my shopping done got a random call this morning day after I went into the bank I again said I would be in after my online shopping was cleared it’s 4pm Friday and my card is declining and I’m receiving online declined notifications they cancelled my card leaving me with no access to money till monday called support and the guy with a thick accent was no help and a waste of time

My parents have banked with 1st NorCal CU for many years, my father a retired fire captain and my mother a retired teacher. When both of my parents became incapacitated due to Alzheimer's and Dementia, I had to exercise my POA to help my parents with their banking, from where we live in Washington State. I was so fortunate to have worked with the CU's Senior VP (Lisa) and Senior Financial Service Rep ( Sandra) who always provided my spouse and I with the utmost professional, kind and compassionate customer service. When we moved my parents into memory care / assisted living last month were faced with so many dead ends / unknowns within the banking world as those who have been through what we have can certainly understand and appreciate. Lisa and Sandra were and to this day, are always responsive to our cries for help - always offering a solution, even when situations were not always directly related to banking - they were beyond a doubt customer focused and professional. We cannot thank 1st Nor Cal Credit Union enough for their support and kindness - in all honesty will share with all reading this review, we could not have muddled through the maze of dealing with my parents bills and banking without the generous and relentless support of Lisa, Sandra and all who we have worked with at 1st NorCal. Being out-of-state was complicated but could have been more daunting if we did not have the help from the amazing staff at 1st Nor Cal CU.

The website from 1999 tells the story… this bank is backwards, slow, difficult in all aspects of customer experience. Whatever you do don’t apply for a loan here.

As a retired social worker from Contra Costa County, and a previous member of Contra Costa County Credit Union, I looked into 1st Nor Cal and found out it’s the same credit union as before, with only a name change. After a frustrating start of trying to download the intake application for an auto refinance, and several calls, I finally got to speak with a qualified loan officer. I have appreciated Loan officer/ Jesse Molinar‘s excellent service provided to me throughout this entire loan process – even initially when I could not successfully download the application online. His return calls have been both timely and educational. He’s been very patient, kind, courteous, knowledgeable, and professional. I have already referred two people to Nor Cal because of his excellent service alone. And the best part of all is I got a much lower interest rate, and a shorter loan term, with less monthly payments. My goal has been to pay off my car loan quicker without giving away so much money for the interest. And thanks to Jesse and Nor Cal’s good rates, I will be able to do that even sooner. I am very satisfied with the loan process, thanks to Jessie’s expertise and kindness. He’s a keeper! Dr. Barbara
