I have banked with them for almost 20 years, but my paycheck direct deposit has not posted and it has been over 48hrs. When I call they don’t even look up my account and tell me they’re working on it, that it is an issue with Federal Reserves. BUT that issues was resolved at the reserve level 4 days ago. HORRIBLE customer service, they did not communicate anywhere that they are having issues with ach transaction and they are continuing to take funds out of my account. I was told they will waive “most” fees if I overdrawn on my account. Even though they have my paycheck, but haven’t deposited into my account. If I could give zero stars I would.

I’ve been banking with Sierra Central for several years, and one of the main reasons I chose them was because their checking account was advertised as free with no monthly fees. Another reason I signed up was the positive experience I had at the branch. The staff were kind, helpful, and seemed to genuinely look out for me — especially important as a younger individual just trying to get set up with a stable checking account. Recently, I noticed I was being charged a $4.95 monthly service fee, which caught me completely off guard. When I contacted customer service, I was told they began charging these fees in early 2025 unless customers met three conditions: 1. Use the online banking app — which I’ve done consistently since I opened my account, 2. Enroll in e-statements — which I’ve always used (never received paper), and 3. Make one debit card transaction per month — this is the only one I wasn’t doing, as I use this account primarily for savings. I explained that I was never clearly notified about the policy change — no emails, no popups, no mail. I was only offered a refund for one month’s fee, not all four. I’ve now updated my settings to avoid further fees, but honestly, the experience left a bad taste. If I meet two of the three conditions and have a longstanding account, I shouldn’t be penalized with hidden fees. This kind of practice makes me question continuing to bank with Sierra Central. In response to Sierra Central’s reply: Thank you for the reply, but I want to respectfully highlight that the core issue isn’t just about communication. It’s about the larger change in how members are treated. I chose Sierra Central because you used to offer no-fee checking accounts — a basic standard that most credit unions still maintain. Now, members are being charged just to keep an account open, unless they hit a specific combination of activity metrics. That shift feels out of step with what people expect from a member-focused credit union. In my case, I’ve had e-banking and e-statements from the start. I just wasn’t using the debit card monthly — not out of neglect, but because I use this account to save. Penalizing a saver with hidden fees because they didn’t swipe their card seems backward. I’ve now taken steps to avoid future charges, but the overall experience — including being offered only one month of refunds out of four — left me frustrated and questioning whether Sierra Central is still the right fit. It feels like loyalty doesn’t count for much anymore.

Bank does not work with you if you have a family accident. I bank with two other banks and they helped me stay current with my loans and auto payments. This one just sends collection letter after 10 days and expect to hear from me immediately.

Was given a pay off quote for my vehicle. The payoff quote greatly exceeded the total amount of monthly payments if I simply kept paying on the loan until the maturity date. Was told by an individual we would receive a refund for the difference after the loan was paid off. Fast forward to today, I was told no refund would be issued, that the remaining (rather large) portion of the loan was interest. Why am I charged over 12 months of interest on a loan I’m paying off 5 months early? Nobody seems to have answers, and accountability for false information is absolutely nonexistent.

This place is the best. Everyone Always in a good mood. They greet you with a smile. Whats nice, unlike the national type bank this place will open up more tellers. Try that at BofA. Anytime i needed help they will work with you until its done. Every new motorcycle i purchased i didnt need everything to go from the loan dept. To loan manager, to the higher ups at the branch, over to corp. Over to 3-4 other made up dept. Here its more personal. And they look at each applicaint as a person. I have no complaints about these guys. Ive been a loyal customer almost 40 yrs. Give these folks a chance to earn your business. You might find how you should be treated.
