My husband and I visited this CU Hawaii as we are trying to compare different construction loans from federal credit unions. We went inside and ask to speak to a lender about a construction loans. A lady came out with a form and showed us 2 different loans, my husband asked what a balloon loan was and she didn't know, she went to ask someone. When she came back, we asked what the monthly payment would be for the loan amount we are considering minus our downpayment. She told us it would be $20,000 per month because it was a balloon loan, and that at the end of the year we could roll it into a 30-year mortgage. This didn’t make sense — if we were paying $20K a month, there wouldn’t be anything left to refinance. She said she would go ask someone and went and got another lender named Janea who came out from the back. The first thing Janea said was, "I think it's really strange you are in here asking for a construction loan at that amount, there was couple in here yesterday with the same numbers and I think that is strange". Like what?? She then very rudely and condescendingly explained the process of bonding. Which we are fine with bonding, we went into the credit union to request information of the loan process, not sure why she was so hostile. She also said we couldn't build a home at 200-250/sqft and that contractors charge 300-350/sqft. This is incorrect, previously a friend and I called every single contractor on the Honsador and HMP list and the average price per sqft was 200-250. At no point were we rude and at no point did they apologize. We then talked to a few other credit unions and were treated normally. I realized after they were just messing with us! I mean how do you not know what a balloon loan is as a lender! Shame on you CU Hawaii!

Went in for the mobile notary and they told me she was on break and to wait for 20 to 30 minutes so I waited in the bank with my kids for 40 minutes. The lady got off a break and nobody told her I was waiting there so she took another customer in instead, and I wasted my entire afternoon sitting in the bank and waiting for nothing.

The institute will hold onto your refunded money for the maximum amount of days allowed by law to collect interest instead of crediting your account the following day issued; they hold it up to 5 days or more! Customer service no longer exists unfortunately. The ATM locations including this one are out of order for days every other month if working at all.

Update: CU Hawaii did credit me back so I'll keep my account open & make deposits! Was unaware CU Hawaii charges a inactive fee of $5 per month! The reason Its inactive is because I bank with First Hawaiian bank after my deposited checks wasn't credited!! (Now monitoring this & my other accounts closely! I'll Update this review if I'm credited back the money taken out without my knowledge!
