We had a bad experience at the 23rd St. branch of Heartland Credit Union in Hutchinson KS. Without our permission, instead of renewing 2 CD’s, they instead transferred the funds to the mandatory savings account (.05% vs 4%). We failed to check our quarterly reports closely enough and lost over $2800 in interest. One employee blamed an employee who no longer works there, and another blamed “the system” for the error. Though the branch manager at the Maize location (we discovered there is no manager at the 23rd St. location) was sympathetic, his supervisor refused to correct the error. We are withdrawing all funds from HCU. Moral of the story is…check your quarterly statements carefully and do not assume they are correct! They probably are not. I discovered this institution is not accredited by the Better Business Bureau and has many negative reviews. BUYER BEWARE!

Don’t waste your time with them. They are not worth your time and will take money without talking about it. Their customer service is awful!!

I was a return customer. June 2024 I bought a 2023 Chrysler Pacifica financing thru Heartland Credit Union I was very pleased with that transaction. My son needed a new vehicle in February 2025. He works hard pays cash if he wants anything. He had only one car loan before 10 years ago. Basically no credit history. This hurt him in the world of credit! I took him to where I purchased my car last June because of the good experience that I had. But they were busy and no one came to help us. We were looking at pickups and wandered over to the next dealership but I didn't realize it until later. The other dealership the salesman came out to help us and we decided to purchase a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado with only 58,000 miles on it for $27K. The sales man was great but then they always send you to the guy in the back to finalize the deal. I asked if he could get the loan through Heartland as I did. By the time he added tax and the extended warranty the loan came to $30K and that was with $6K down on it. Heartland would give him the loan at 13% interest. And that was with me cosigning the loan. I stood up to leave, that wasn't a loan it was a punishment! But the guy in the back said he had no credit history! That's how it has to be! After a year he could refinance for a better interest rate. My son is also deaf and he needed a vehicle so we signed the paperwork. We felt we were trapped with no other choice!

The worst, most unprofessional, banking experience I have ever had. They do not answer and then say they are slow because they don't have any staff. The loan officer blames the underwriting says he is overwhelmed and things take him a long time. It is a joke.
