I banked with UCU for 15+ years and for the first 10 years I had a fantastic experience. In the last five years they changed how they operate and treat members, the customer service is poor and I’ve had really bad experiences. I will no longer be banking with them, and I have heard of the same experience from other members. They are overall not well liked as a banking institution.

Will charge randomly higher late payments whenever they feel like it. Multiple late payments in a month. Gives the air they have no idea what’s going on, and they get overwhelmed really easily despite the vast majority of their customer base being calm elderly folks. Probably get paid far too much for delivering sub-par banking services as well. You’re better off using a bank. Hold them accountable for the mistakes they *will* make in regards to your bank account, if you’re poor, expect to be worse off using their services as they hit you with endless fees, including paper statement fees when you’ve enrolled for online banking.

After loyally doing my business and personal banking with UCU for fourteen years, I was incredibly disappointed in their treatment of me as a customer since 2020. I believe their account fee practices are predatory, as well as their overall approach to customer service, and the services they say they offer such as “Shared Branch Banking” are not as hassle-free as they make them out to be. Some of their main branch employees seem to be poorly trained and give out mis-information on important member questions. In addition, their online banking platform is not particularly user friendly. I’m very disappointed in my experience. I used to love banking with them, particularly at my local Portland branch where I received fantastic customer service, particularly from Shawn who was always wonderful to work with. It’s sad to see a large banking company not value relationships with customers. They lost a lifelong member.

Do not use them, they are a scam they changed their policy and now they want to charge you a $10 fee just to pay your bill over the phone. when you contact customer service no one seems to care. Update, i called again today to see if they would waive their ridiculous fee i was told quote " we cant waive the fee, but if you download the app you can not pay a fee and you wont have to keep bugging us".... thats top notch customer service UCU, tell your customers they are bugging you. Terrible bank closing all accounts tomorrow.

I have banked with UCU for several years and have always had prompt and excellent customer service experiences. It's what has kept me a member even after moving away. UCU has incredible employees and I would highly recommend this financial institution to anyone.
Weekdays 9am–4pm typically have the shortest wait times for new member inquiries.
