I opened checking and savings accounts with SMSE which I have had for a little more than 2 years now. I intentionally did not have a debit card linked to my accounts because I do most of my daily transactions at my original account at another bank, I was not worried about fraud on my accounts at SMSE. I have actually liked and enjoyed this arrangement because I was not spending without a linked debit card, until today. To my suprise, I discovered my account had been linked to a debit card that has been making unauthorised purchases and withdrawals against my account. To resolve this matter, I visited my branch in West Bloomfield on Orchard Lake Road, the teller who inetially took my complanit, did so with concerns and urgency, but the senior officer to whom my case was referred, to do the investigation, did not gave the impression that she was as concerned as the teller and her assistant who were very professional in addressimg my concerns. She gave me a yellow marker/highlighter along with forms to itemise all the transactions I was disputing. When I informed her that I did not have a debit card Iinked to my accounts, therefore, every debit card or point of sale transaction were unauthorized, she said they did not know that untill I had told her so. She made this comment with a broad simle. When I questioned her approach, in contrast to her coworkers who seemed guinely envolved, she said she was not taking my issue lightly, but part of her job in customer service was to smile. It felt like was doing an exam, and it took forever, as there were many small transactions ranging from about $1.00 to $50.00. Iquestioned items labeled as ovedraft charges but she dismissed these fees as not being overdraft charges. I am now awaiting the findings of this investigation. I am dissapointed. 3/12/26 Most of the point of sale transactions(approxmately $1,000.00) have been refunded or credited back in my account within 24 hours of my complaint. I will be visting the branch office to request or verify if the overdraft fees charged to my account will also be refunded, considering those tranactions are responsinle for the overdraft charges.
