This is my first time writing a review because of how bad my experience was here. I recently came in with friend of mine into this credit union to open an account, thinking it would be a nice place for both of us to open account. However, we were extremely uncomfortable. While we were waiting in line, another member started yelling and screaming at one of the bank tellers. It was loud, frightening, and made me feel extremely unsafe. What troubled and shocked me even more was that there was a large security guard sitting nearby, right next to all of this!! He was just staring down at his phone the ENTIRE time. He never once got up, looked over, or gave the impression that he was paying attention to what was happening. The member wasn't just raising his voice he was shouting, screaming and demanding. Never in any of the banks I have been with throughout my life would this kind of behavior be accepted. To see it tolerated here without any staff or security stepping in, was shocking to me. My friend and I decided to leave immediately and take our business to another bank that values the safety and comfort of its members. I've been to many banks and I don’t expect perfection, but I do expect the bare minimum of feeling safe. DO NOT BANK HERE!! It is one thing when the customer is being loud and another when the customer is being loud and threatening and not a single person stepped in. As this being the first experience stepping foot in the bank, it set the precedence that this is an everyday occurrence.

My experience with Buffalo Metropolitan Credit Union has been very disappointing. Communication throughout the loan process was extremely poor—I often had to call to get updates, only to find out my application had been sitting for weeks without review. Even after providing all requested documents, including multiple credit card statements, the process lacked transparency and clear timelines. Definitely closing my account and moving on to another credit union. I value honesty and good communication when it comes to financial institutions, and unfortunately, this was not my experience here.

Been with this bank for a long time (financed my 2 cars through them - awesome) and never had any major troubles. The pandemic seemed to be rough on them though - I asked around and the consensus I'm seeing is that they're currently in a transitional period where they're updating a lot of their internal stuff like card providers, systems, and shifting employees around/hiring more people. The good part about this is that the hiccups many account holders (myself included) have been dealing with here will most likely be fixed soon and they'll be able to offer some better service. The bad part is, of course, that right now things are kind of iffy. Service isn't the best (it depends on who you're dealing with), it's hard to get a hold of anyone by phone (seems they're as short-staffed as anywhere else), and some things can stop working sometimes (I have been told a number of visits thru the last year or so that their card issuing systems were under maintenance, which can be a bummer if you need a new debit card quickly. Maybe I just have bad luck?) Reliability can be a huge sticking point, especially at a banking institution, so I can see why some may have been having difficulties. Of course, the silver lining is that I haven't been experiencing any problems on a day-to-day basis: what issues I have had were very occasional. Just doing my basic banking and using their cards, ATMs etc. there are usually no issues. I also go to Canada a lot and I have yet to have any problems up there. Knowing that they're working on finding solutions for the problems that DO exist, however, is good to know. Still the best bank I've been a part of. Super low rates, very understanding and charitable staff for the most part, and compared to other bigger banks, they don't have nearly as many hidden fees or unexpected tricks up their sleeve. I would definitely recommend doing your banking here, at least if you're aiming for something long-term. You may have to look past some of the short-term hiccups in the meantime, though.

No one knows what there doing and always confused when you ask questions. Tellers constantly on they cell phones. The main teller is rude and nasty!!!! Don’t bother calling. Takes WEEKS to get a call back. Get the poor lady who answers phone calls some help! You obviously don’t care about your customers. Just a money grab. I can’t believe this how you manage a company and treat customers!!!! How long are you going to use “short staffed” as an excuse? Hire people who want to work and know what they doing!!!!
Weekdays 9am–4pm typically have the shortest wait times for new member inquiries.
