I would love to give this establishment a higher rating because the ladies who work there are really awesome. They are helpful beyond belief, but I had an absolutely terrible experience with the CEO today that I cannot believe happened. CICFU is a small credit union and they offer good programs, but with their declining membership over the last few years (yes, I have attended members meetings the past two years) one would think there would be better customer service, especially from someone who runs the organization. My husband and I used to have an account with CIFCU, but we didn’t like their online banking system so we closed the account recently. We have continued to use CIFCU through the shared co-op branch program since we are members of an out of state credit union. Today I went into CIFCU to inquire about mortgage loans and they told me they do not offer mortgage loans and they referred me to a person at a different credit union. The woman helping me was so helpful though. She asked me questions about where I was looking and offered more neighborhoods to look into. She offered information about how to search for tax assessments to see what property taxes would be for a home. I have done a lot of my own research prior to asking them about loan information so it felt more like a typical conversation, not entirely a Q and A. The woman talking to me seemed genuine and knowledgable and by the time I was almost ready to leave, Karen, the CEO, came up and prefaced her whole lecture with “I don’t mean to be rude, but...” When anyone prefaces something with that, you know it’s going to be rude. She told me that she paid her employees to work and since I “didn’t have the decency to at least put $5 into an account” that I was wasting their time. Karen yelled at me in front of all five of her employees, and there was also another customer right next to me. It was unbelievable. Maybe we were a little engrossed in the conversation and exchange of information, but I don’t believe that I was there for more than 5 minutes. If she treats her customers this way, I wonder how she treats her employees. There are much nicer ways to shut down a conversation. She could have said that while this is exciting stuff, CIFCU doesn’t offer home loans and that I should contact their referral. Karen handled this situation so poorly. I am so glad that I closed my accounts with CIFCU and if I hadn’t already done so I definitely would be after this interaction.
