Proceed with caution when using People’s Federal Credit Union for auto loans, especially private-party purchases. We financed a vehicle through People’s FCU and paid them to handle Tax, Title & Registration (TT&R) for a private seller transaction. At closing, we explicitly stated this was a private sale, that the seller would be removing the plates (which is the default and legally correct process in Texas), and we specifically asked about temporary tags. We were told temporary tags were not needed and that People’s would handle the plates and registration. That guidance was incorrect. After the loan closed, the seller properly removed the plates and registration. We then discovered: • No temporary tags were issued • No permanent plates were ordered • Registration had not been processed • We were unknowingly driving without plates or valid registration When we contacted People’s to resolve this, we were initially told they “needed to know in advance” that the seller would keep the plates — despite this being the standard process in Texas private sales. Only after repeated follow-up and escalation did People’s finally confirm in writing that the plates had never been ordered. To their credit, once the issue was escalated, the title department acted quickly and processed the registration and issued plates and a registration sticker the same day. We appreciate the eventual resolution. However, this situation should never have occurred: • We paid for TT&R to be handled correctly • We asked the right questions at closing • We relied on incorrect guidance from their staff • We were placed at risk of citation through no fault of our own While the issue was ultimately fixed, it required persistent follow-up and correcting misinformation that should not come from a financial institution handling auto loans. If you are considering People’s FCU for an auto loan — especially a private-party purchase — get everything in writing, confirm that plates and registration are actually being processed, and do not assume verbal assurances are sufficient. Based on this experience, we would not choose People’s FCU again for auto financing.

I was curious about the interest rates for auto loans and had a question about refinancing. I used the automated text and ask a question A very nice employee answered all of my questions over text message in a timely manner. I am a member of peoples Federal credit union and I am very happy with their service.

Do better! My parents have banked with TPFCU for 35 years. We came inside to deposit a check all documents and D.L were valid and match the name on the account. The teller made it clear she thought this was a fraudulent check and was trying to stamp it as so. She was unprofessional and completely stereotyped my mom. We had zero Issues at Amarillo National Bank with opening a new account and depositing the funds. I am so angry that she was treated with such distaste and lack of integrity. Unfortunately we can’t close our accounts right away but we will be taking our business elsewhere as soon as we can. Do better TPFCU!

This bank will tell you on the app that you have plenty of money in your account, then you can check the website. The website confirms you have plenty of money and there are no pending transactions. Then go in the grocery store and this horrible bank, who just assured you that you have several times the amount you want to spend, declines you again. If you like being embarrassed and infuriated, go with these guys.
