This credit union is mainly in business for the convince of being downtown. Good for nothing and will not help loyal customers. I have never in my 39 years done a review on a credit union until decided to check the reviews to see if its just me and its NOT! Most credit unions really give the family vibe and come thru when you NEED them. Not HCFCU. Dont bank here!

absolutely do not do business with these people. no be asked who they voted for to get an account open and no one should have to have to endure a political tirade from the person asking them financial information to open an account. i'm not ashamed of my politics, that's just weird. and it's weird that this person was so frothing at the mouth about it. you should also not be lied to and told if you deposit 50 bucks in savings you won't be charged fees on your checking only to find out your checking account got overdrawn by fees -- THREE MONTHS after it went negative. and when someone wants to close their accounts, they should not be told they have to wait for forms to be sent, and in the meantime, they will definitely be charged another fee and pulled even further overdrawn. this is but a taste - you would not believe the nightmare of engaging this credit union. HCFCU - you are welcome to contact me for a more full customer feedback, but the person i just spoke to couldn't give less of a damn, so i doubt the credit union at large does either.

Poor communication. No responses, no call backs, no update, NOTHING. Was looking forward to financing an auto loan with them and possibly refinancing but with no communication, it's not worth it. Good luck to anyone who decides to deal with them.

I really appreciate these guys. It was difficult to get approved for a truck loan, even with a 750 credit score, since I was a first-time buyer. After consistent communication, they finally approved me, and I was able to get the police Tahoe I wanted. I will definitely continue doing business with HCFU, including my future home purchase.

I’ve had consistently frustrating experiences with the customer service at Harris County Federal Credit Union. Every time I call with a question, I’m quickly interrupted before I can fully explain my situation especially difficult since English isn’t my first language. Instead of being patient or helpful, representatives often dismiss me or shut down the conversation without offering alternative solutions or explaining my options clearly. The overall banking experience also feels outdated. Most services still require you to go in person to their Downtown location, which is not convenient or accessible for people with busy schedules or transportation challenges. It’s disappointing in this digital age that such basic banking needs can’t be handled more easily or with better support. I expected more understanding and flexibility from a local credit union. Unfortunately, this hasn’t been my experience.
Weekdays 9am–4pm typically have the shortest wait times for new member inquiries.
