I arrived to the Security First Credit Union McAllen Texas location on Friday 02/20/2026 at 4:57pm to obtain a letter. 3 female employees up front said “we are already closed, try online banking”. I can only assume their happy hour/after work activities were more important than the customer service they provided. May they always receive the treatment they gave moving forward

The only "good" thing about this "credit union" are their promotional auto interest rates. I have had an auto loan with them for 2 years now. Their Online Banking system is TRASH—the website and the APP is worse. You can update your email address but FORGET about receiving important notifications to your updated email. I am still getting important emails to my old email and EVERY TIME you call the phone reps don't even verify you...first they argue and tell you how to do things yourself then after you beg them to escalate or look into it is when they ACTUALLY verify you and don't even give you good customer service, they will still tell you they can't help because you need to make the changes yourself. I've worked in banking for many years the level of professionalism, accountability/ownership and innovation you get from those big banks you will NEVER get from this credit union. I have dealt with other credit unions and none have been as outdated and inconvenient as this one. I had to leave a review here because there is no where on their 1965 era generated website where you can submit a formal complain to someone who actually cares or that will change anything. Thanks to their outdated system I was not aware that my second transfer was cancelledBY THEM BECAUSE THEY HAVE A LIMIT PER DAY WHICH IS SO INCONVENIENT BECAUSE I am sure I am not the only one with a monthly PAYMENT HIGHER THAN THAT. Also, because they are erroneously sending emails to an email thats no longer on file I was not aware it was cancelled I had to figure it out by calling. More interest has accumulated on a higher balance because of their own ignorance.

Be careful when you get out a loan. We went with this bank for a good interest rate for our lot. The day that we were closing with the title company. We got a suspicious email, but it looked very good from this bank for us to wire transfer to a working bank in Florida. The scary part is that it had our account number, had our address, it had the title company name with the title company address, the banks named it was all there. It even had the name of the employee that works here at this bank her full name. What gave it away? Was the email on top, did not come from .gov or .org. This email came from .com This type of email is not used from a professional financial institution. My husband and I believe tremendously that there is an employee at this bank who is doing fraud, and it should be a federal crime. Because they had all our information down to everything. Because it is a domestic crime, they wanted us to transfer to a united states bank in Florida. I wonder if it's too late to report it to the FBI or some kind of financial institution. This happened last year around April 2024. If you're getting a loan out, please be careful!

Been doing business here for more than 40 yrs. CD Rates better than banks ( which my sister, who works at a big bank verified), customer service good, and have had certain issues that were quickly resolved. My only quirk a few years back, was that, despite my many years with this CU, they could not give me a good loan interest rate on my intention to buy a new car. The car agency itself gave me a way better offer anyway. Regardless, I appreciate dealing with a small financial institution rather than a big bank anytime.
