After being a member for over 10 years money was illegally taken from my account by the credit union to cover another family members credit card debt because they have the same last name. Countless phone calls later they are refusing to give me any answers and tell me to wait days for a call back which never happens. Guess I need to report them to the NCUA and FTC to get the ball rolling. Hopefully I can avoid small claims court but I work for the sheriffs office and I can't stand people who feel they can skirt the law.

Been a member for 14-15 yrs and have had good service till now . My account has a hold on it and no one can tell me why or when it can be resolved. I have not received a call back from anyone and have made daily calls to no avail. I only get recordings and no one ever answers the call . I’m losing faith in this credit union !!!

Have been a member for 25 years both as a US employee & as an IM employee. We've never really had any major issues that would not also be experienced within another bank. Staff have always been friendly and helpful whenever we have needed help answering query. Main reason for 3 stars is the lack of modernization of services and the website user interface. That experience has become more apparent after we opened an account with a main street US bank. I use Zelle a lot, SECU does not. Website functionality is clucky compared to our new account (yup, I get it, a main street bank has more capital to spend on such "niceties"). The main reason for sticking with SECU over the years was their huge network of feeless cash withdrawals but now that main street banks also offer a large feeless cash withdrawals network and anyway, who nowadays uses physical cash (hint: Zelle, Venmo), we are quite happy to have switched.

I don't have a problem with the credit union itself, but I was just yelled at by a customer service representative for asking a question. I get being frustrated, but it was the first time I asked and she immediately got loud. I also understand she probably has a script to follow, but like, I'm a human, dude. I didn't yell at you and I'd appreciate the same respect in return.

Here is why I give this credit union a low rating after being a member for several years: -Very slow to react to and solve problems. -When I first came to the USA from the UK, SECU were very slow to issue a debit card to me, despite my proactive order several weeks prior my move for the card. This delay seriously hampered my move and ability to buy goods for delivery to my Houston apartment. I had to use cash at stores and collect from stores. I could not order online for several weeks since I did not have a debit card with a US zip code, necessary for online ordering. -Having to pay for wire transfers rather than being able to use free money transfer services. In the UK and other US banks, these allow free transfer of funds to vendors. SECU does not allow this and is therefore so out of date with the modern banking system. -In addiiton, I recently wanted to transfer money from my SECU checking account to my wifes checking SECU account and found out you cannot do this online like other modern financial institutions. I had to send an internal online banking request message to request it and it took more than a day to complete, which is unacceptable in my view for transfering within the same credit union. -I recently bought a house and could not trust SECU to assist this since they use a mortgage broker with a low internet rating. I explained this to SECU and got a very unsympathetic response that they believe the broker was high quality despite online bad reviews. This was not sufficient for me so SECU lost my business. The only reason I haven’t moved from SECU is the hassle of moving direct debits and standing orders, but I am seriously looking at this due to my overall poor experience with SECU over several years. I advise all to avoid this credit union and try and join a more modern, quick responding sympathetic bank.
