I had an extremely disappointing member experience today. My BayPort account (no longer my primary institution) went slightly negative (under $40) last month with zero notification—no email, push notification, call, or letter. Instead of contacting me, BayPort froze my parents’ completely separate accounts, and told them I was “in collections,” when they called BayPort to inquire what was going on, which was news to me. I immediately went to the Newport News main branch to fix the account, and while the representative I worked with was polite, the issue was mishandled three times. I also asked to file a formal complaint regarding this jaded collections process to ensure awareness is brought to the notification issue, but received a shrug and nonchalant, “well, we do have a Salesforce case that goes to our Regional Directors,” as a response. I would gamble that nothing was submitted, no confirmation was given. I was told the holds on my parents’ accounts were removed—twice —yet they were still locked out when I left the second time. They had to call the contact center themselves after the branch closed to have the collection holds officially removed. This was a simple issue that turned into two branch visits, multiple calls, and unnecessary stress for my family. While I take full accountability for not properly monitoring the account, the “Collections” process here is flawed. Where was the attempt to notify the primary member? A simple phone call would have worked, as I was simply unaware of the issue. The lack of communication, poor internal process, and inconsistent follow‑through from representatives on correcting this was unacceptable.

Branch manager Dante was very helpful. He helped me resolved some concerns I was having and advised of some services I was eligible for. He’s very knowledgeable and pleasant. The best customer service experience ever.

I'm a satisfied customer for many years now. My Bayport CU branch is convenient and the staff is professional. I highly recommend Bayport Credit Union.

I do not recommend conducting business with this credit union. We financed a vehicle through them in 2023, and when we returned to the dealership two years later to upgrade, BayPort continued sending us statements and billing us for the vehicle the dealership had already purchased and held the title for. The dealership issued both a payment and a formal letter confirming that BayPort’s reporting to the credit bureaus under our names was incorrect. We are now disputing the matter with the credit bureaus, who have been supportive and understanding. Based on our experience, you should expect unnecessary complications and unresolved issues when working with this company.
