I purchased a vehicle recently and I used the dealership’s financing option they had available. I planned to pay off the vehicle immediately as soon as I opened up the loan. Boy what a mistake I made. HAPO was the default financing provided by the dealership. Upon getting my first bill I went to pay off my vehicle which was a total of 15k. I then learned in order to make a payment on the vehicle they force you to open a savings account with them and you can only make payments using that savings account. I wanted to pay off the vehicle so I called the credit union and they told me I had to transfer the funds to the account they made for me or do a wire transfer and pay the fees. Also on top of this in order to transfer money to the account they have to verify your account by sending a small deposits of around $0.35. This transfer takes days. Once I received it I attempted to transfer money to the account they’re making me use (which also takes days). I then tried to transfer the money and was then prompted I was exceeding the amount aloud (which the first and second person I spoke to told me I could transfer this amount). I called again and was told my a new representative that the only way I could pay off the loan was by mailing a cashier’s check, paying with a debit card in person, or conducting a wire transfer and paying your bank’s fees and theirs as well. I should also noted your loan balance goes up daily because of interest and I have been trying to make a payment for a while now, and my loan balance continues to climb as I struggle to try and find a way to pay. I should also note I live hours away from any of their locations. This company seems to take every angle they can to prevent you from paying off your loan. I strongly recommend to everyone to not get any type of loan with this company. I will never do business with this company again.

Terrible! I banked with Hapo many years ago and moved due to multiple bad experiences (extremely weird policies, unreasonable fees, multiple errors on Hapo's side like putting my paycheck in an incorrect account, not an ounce of care in any interaction with them, etc.). I was extremely happy with my new bank for many, many years. Not a single issue! Unfortunately, that bank recently sold out to Hapo. This weekend our debit cards quit working, but the new cards Hapo sent us (due to the buyout) said we cannot activate them until tomorrow. My husband activated his anyway to see if it will work since the old one doesn't, and yep... it doesn't work either. No support line, just a recorded message saying they are blacked out and closed until Monday. Further, no online banking with the old bank or the new bank to check account balances, so for all we know they misplaced our money since our cards don't work on any of our accounts. They locked us out of our money. OUR MONEY. I am grateful we have credit cards to fall back on or we would have been unable to make necessary purchases this weekend. Hapo is either EXTREMELY incompetent, or they don't give a single care about their customers (which is why I left in the first place). I will be opening accounts with a new bank in the morning and praying that we get all of or money back out of Hapo. I am sure the fees to get it will be outrageous. What a horrible financial institution. If you are considering doing business with them... RUN!

I had a terrible service with this bank. Be very careful. My husband and I refinanced a car so it would be in my name, and when the registration came through, we realized it was still in his name. I asked them why and they told me it was their mistake, but nothing could be done. They said if I wanted it in my name, the solution was to refinance it again, even though it was almost paid off. I was only responsible for the loan to Experian. Thank God we resolved the issue with the licensing department.

20+ year member here. Something has changed in the past year. I dont know what it is but its enough for me to be exploring other banks. Their rates have never really been competitive to begin with, they enacted atm fees for non hapo atms, so now it'll cost you up to $6 to take money from a non hapo atm. Lovely. They place ungodly long holds on checks and their fraud detection system is about as efficient and consistent as DC politicians. Just like everything else in this world, they've gone to shit.

Online and phone banking are constantly going out, they will try and withhold large with drawls. Anything over 5k. Only let you take a max of 1500 a day from your own account.
