I’ve been shopping for credit unions, but I learned that salal credit union is not protecting an employee who was physically assaulted by another employee. Salal, please do the right thing and follow the employee’s no contact order.

Beware! Salal credit union would send you deceiving statement with different due date to trick you into paying late. This was what they did to me, sending me statement with date later than my no interest due date. Naturally I went with the statement date instead of checking the contract, since I thought it would be the same. Now they refused to undo the interest that was levied on my account. Basically scammed me of my money. Do not do business with this company! Scam artist is what they are!

I reiterate my 1 star review. Salal responded to my review within a day or two (see below), with instructions on how they thought I could rectify the original issues I brought up in my original review below. Salal also sent me a letter with instructions. I followed the instructions, and their instructions did not solve the problem. Importantly, I also called them to have them try to figure out how to fix the issue. The customer service rep could not figure out how to correct the problem, put me on hold for a long time, and then the line disconnected. Bottom line, their website and especially their mortgage payment system are cumbersome and frustration inducing. I strongly suggest that you pick another bank for a mortgage, and save yourself the trouble. Probably the major way that most people end up interacting with their bank, is via the website. The Salal website seems to have been made in the year 2000, is rarely updated, and is very cumbersome and especially difficult and frustrating to navigate and find information. Because the website is cumbersome to use, doesn't provide much information or tools for your account, and it is difficult to navigate to find the information from your account, and it is the major way that I have interacted monthly with Salal for the last 3 years since getting and paying my Salal mortgage, the website and my experiences are the basis for my 1 star review. Specifically, I looked for a local credit union instead of a major bank for a mortgage, and I picked Salal (the rates were similar to BECU at the time). After being approved for a mortgage with Salal, the frustration started when I found out that Salal allows you to pay a mortgage only from a Salal savings or checking account, not an external account from different bank. And even though all of my Salal mortgage process and paperwork was completed online, Salal forces you to go in person to open a savings account! I had barely heard of Salal before the mortgage, so then I had to find and visit a branch in person to open a Salal savings account. Then after opening a new Salal savings account, I found out that I would have to make two transactions per month 1) fund my Salal savings account and 2) pay mortgage. Considering that the bank doesn't spend any money on their website, and the account information about transfers and balances sometimes takes days to update on the website, I have frustratingly slow experiences with this bank every single month because I need to wait until the funds transfer and are available before paying my mortgage, which means I must check for updated balances multiple days in a row. If the Salal savings account was a high yield savings account like some of my other external accounts, then it would be no problem to have money in my Salal savings, but the saving account offers a very low interest rate. Seriously, if I would have known about this frustratingly slow payment process due to an outdated website before applying for a mortgage, I would have picked a different local credit union for a mortgage; there are plenty of other local credit unions in the Puget Sound area. Lastly, my complaints to Salal about their website have fallen on deaf ears. They should use some of the money that they are getting from my mortgage to hire someone to create a better website! Overall, because I have frustrating monthly interactions with Salal's via their website to pay my mortgage, and the website is the major way that I have interacted with Salal for the last 3 years, I give it this bank a 1 star rating.

They make it easy to get the loan you need, but try to get a payoff statement.... there is a waiting list?!?! I mean how hard is it to email me the information you are verbally giving me over the phone? Well let me just say I will not be doing business with them in the future once my current obligations are fulfilled. I will also be informing the retailer whom suggested their service of how disappointed I am.

I have always had great service and respect at Salal . At commercial banks like the hateful Bank of America or the criminal Wells Fargo,, I always have to wait in line because the banks refuse to pay for a decent number of tellers. They have stockholders to pay so they give terrible service. Leave your commercial bank and join a good Credit Union like Salal!
